Le Prince de Courthezon Cotes du Rhone 2012

Cotes du Rhone AOC

Double Gold for this luscious Cotes du Rhone from vineyards nudging the edge of Chateauneuf

Description

The Cotes du Rhone covers a vast area and the closer your vines are to Chateauneuf du Pape, the more chance of making a wine in that style. Le Prince is from Chateauneuf’s only winery owned and run by local growers. The grapes are from vineyards that abut the famous appellation and share the same stone strewn soil, climate and grape varieties. The vines are old and gnarled, producing fewer grapes than young vines, but therefore with rare concentration of flavour. Winemaker Thierry Ferlay has worked in Australia and brings a modern perspective to his work. We think it’s exceptionally good value, especially in a very good vintage like 2012. A velvety red, spot on with lamb, a robust cassoulet, duck with olives, or slow cooked casseroles.
