Chateau de Colombe 2012
Delicious crisp rose from vineyards neighbouring St Emilion. Terrific berry fruit and refreshing zip
Tony Laithwaite’s original Chateau de la Clariere lies in the little village of Ste Colombe, Castillon. Such is his belief in the supreme quality of this village’s terroir that, since then, he has added Chateau du Bourg and Presbytere to the portfolio and, two years ago, Chateaux du Bois and de Colombe. With Stephane Derenoncourt’s Domaine de L’A next door, it seems he’s not the only one to have conviction. The two latest properties surround a 14th century castle with vineyards on the same limestone plateau as Saint Emilion next door. Winemaker Henry Laithwaite crafted this wine, gently pressing the Cabernet to gain a little colour while using the saignee method for the Merlot. This crisp rose is delicious solo and very versatile with food.
